Co-leaders of a drug smuggling cartel banned from American trade.
The Department of the Treasury sanctioned the Mexican drug cartel La Nueva Familia Michoacana last week, blocking its members and co-leaders from formally participating in American trade or banking. The cartel primarily operates in the Mexican states of Michoacán, Guerrero, and Morelos, sending its many members to produce and traffick a wide variety of drugs to the United States.
“Not only does this cartel traffic fentanyl, which claimed the lives of more than 71,000 Americans last year, it now markets ‘rainbow fentanyl’ as part of a deliberate effort to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults,” said Under Secretary Brian Nelson. “Treasury’s partnership with the [Drug Enforcement Administration] and the Mexican government has been critical as we take actions to protect our citizens from the harmful effects of these deadly narcotics.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Under Secretary Nelson as he heads the Treasury office over Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
- For wisdom for Secretary Janet Yellen as she leads the Treasury Department.
- For U.S. officials as they implement measures to address the opioid crisis.
